In the aftermath of President Trump’s Executive Order restricting any form of Immigration from seven targeted mainly Muslim countries (Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen), the fractures that were in America over Trump’s election have gone truly global.
Homelessness remains a blight on our society. The figures released by the Government recently make for grim reading. In England, rough sleeping on our streets went up 16 per cent over the past year to 4,134. I suspect the figures are much higher in reality.
Since leaving Parliament in 2015 I decided to focus on tackling homelessness. To this end I am chairing a working group of sector experts at the Centre for Social Justice. We will produce a report early next year which seeks to provide a set of policy recommendations to better prevent and tackle homelessness.
