Brooks sits on the Government’s Rough Sleeper’s Advisory Panel, and in 2017 chaired a report on Homelessness in the UK with Crisis and the Centre for Social Justice.
Brooks is also a passionate philanthropist and is the Co-Founder of A Partner in Education, a charity which works with Rwandan teachers to give children access to schooling and quality, inclusive education. As a devoted humanitarian, Brooks has founded a charity Angels for Ukraine, that has to this date evacuated over 30, 000 civilians from the war zone and delivered essential aid across Ukraine.
Angels for Ukraine
Brooks Newmark is a staunch humanitarian, as just days after the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, he joined Raitis Bullits to coordinate evacuations of Ukrainians civilians from the Polish border to a number of European countries. As the war progressed, Brooks scaled up his work moving closer to the war frontline to retreat and evacuate women and children, as well as the elderly.
Over the course of the year 2022, Brooks went on to evacuate over 21 000 civilians to safety, including 250 injured soldiers to transport to the EU. Together with Raitis Bullits, Brooks founded a charity Angels for Ukraine to enable transport of civilians and injured soldiers, as well as deliver essential humanitarian aid along the war frontline and de-occupied areas.
Brooks is currently studying for a DPhil in the Education Department focussing on Education Reform in Rwanda and leads a humanitarian charity Angels for Ukraine.
Brooks Newmark is a steadfast social reform campaigner who has dedicated his career to building strong and healthy communities. In 2017, he chaired a Report on Homelessness in the UK with Crisis and the Centre for Social Justice, and is a Member of the Government’s Advisory Board on Rough Sleeping.
Brooks is a Member of the International Commission on Missing Persons Panel of Experts and has lectured and written on a range of subjects including the Conflict in Syria, Brexit, Homelessness and Private Equity.
Brooks was the Member of Parliament for Braintree (2005-15) Brooks served in the Coalition Government as Minister for Civil Society, with responsibility for charities, the voluntary sector and youth (2014) having previously served on the Treasury Select Committee (2012 -14 and 2006-7) and as a Government Whip and Lord Commissioner HM Treasury (2010 - 12). In Opposition Brooks also served as a Whip (2007-10).
Brooks was Co-Chairman and Founder of Women2Win (to encourage more women into politics and public service); and Founder of the Million Jobs Campaign (to tackle youth unemployment)
Brooks has served on the Board of the Harvard Alumni Association (Harvard University) and has served on the Advisory Boards of London Business School's Private Equity Institute and Tel Aviv University’s Recanati Institute.
Prior to entering politics Brooks was a Senior Partner at Apollo Management LP, a leading International Private Equity firm. Brooks is currently an Angel investor in various startups.
Brooks was educated at Harvard College (AB History), Harvard Business School (MBA Finance) and Oxford University (MSc Education).
Brooks founded the charity A Partner In Education in 2010 and has built a primary school for 300 children, a secondary school for 100 children and a teacher training centre in Rwanda.
