Philanthropy

Brooks is committed to philanthropy, and is the co-founder of A Partner in Education. This is a charity which works to improve the education sector in Rwanda, and it has built a school in Kigali for over 300 children.

In 2007 Brooks became involved in a social action project in Kigali, Rwanda, which was initially launched to provide a better education experience for young students. For him it wasn’t enough to polish a school; he wanted to create an environment which would provide a high-quality, inclusive education. After years of work, Newmark and  fellow philanthropist Kitty Llewelly officially opened Girubuntu Primary School's doors to eager students, parents, and teachers. Rwandan president Paul Kagame attended the opening ceremony in 2011 and remarked that Girubuntu Primary School was not just an academic institution, but "a symbol of something much bigger — the strong relationship that exists between the people and the government of Rwanda and those of the UK."

Out of this project which started with only 83 children, A Partner in Education was born. Brooks is on the board of the charity and it is still working to improve the national education sector in Rwanda.
